After earning praise as a new standard-bearer for Nihonga with his “parapsychological” paintings depicting the primal instincts of animals, Junji Kawashima has gone on to build further popularity with his “animal graffiti” series of works that combine the traditional rinpa school with influences from parapsychology and pop art.
